A good quotation to think..

I really appreciate this quotation:
"I remember my tenth-grade English teacher. He used to give us compositions to write, but he would give us specific subjects. I didn't write on the subjects he gave us.
Rather than give me an "F," he said he appreciated my creativity. I remember him because he didn't squelch me."

Mi primera semana real!

Mi primer día!!
What a great first week of teaching I had!! J
Today, I started teaching to 3rd grade students. Our unit was about Food in restaurants.
One of the first thoughts I got before planning this unit was about how I was going to introduce this topic to my students.  I really wanted to make it interesting but relaxing at the same time.
So, as an introduction, I showed them some pictures of fruits, vegetables and meals, and then I asked if someone knew some of the names of the pictures shown. Most of them knew at least 3 or 4 names in Spanish. After going over to a flipchart I created for them about food and fruits, I gave them a sheet of paper so they can write down, of course not perfectly, some fruits, veggies or meal’s names that they know already. I did this as a way to see how much they know this unit, and also as a way to compare how much they really learned from day 1 to day 6.
One of my biggest concerns is classroom management. I realized how important this is in a real classroom. I believe that classroom management is such significant key to us because without it, we can’t accomplish anything in the classroom with the students, which could be a nightmare to us.
After teaching my first class, I had some positive and constructive feedbacks from my CT, in which she also noticed my weakness side which was not being able to grab all the children’s attention. It is so hard to be there standing up with  millions of thoughts crossing your mind about what you should do and follow during your 45’ of LP and also trying to get all your students’ attention so you can do your lesson. I felt I did my best in my first day of teaching and I know once I get to know my students better, things are going to go smoother and better for me.

See you next week

My first day on the field.

Notes from Friday 13th, 2012
This has been a long and  stressful week for me because I've been trying to remember names, schedules hours, duties, grade books, nicknames, meeting names, and more during these two last  weeks. I know this is the only way I will become directly involved with my future classes, but it's overwhelming sometimes.
Still, I have the feeling that I'll absolutely enjoy this semester. My CT is such an amazing teacher. She is very energetic and cheerful to about what she does, which I Love it!!  I really appreciate what she is doing for me, and I'm looking forward to teaching this semester.
